Privacy Policy
MealGauge keeps the confirmed food diary on your device. It processes meal photos you deliberately submit for AI analysis and retains an encrypted server copy to review recognition quality and improve reliability.
1. Information processed
- Meal photos and descriptions: sent to our service and contracted AI API only when you request analysis. The submitted image is also retained in encrypted form on our production server for recognition-quality review, including both successful and unsuccessful analyses. We do not use it to build an advertising profile.
- Confirmed meals and targets: stored locally on your device in the MVP.
- Anonymous product interaction: coarse events such as opening the app, moving between screens, starting or completing analysis, saving a meal, and purchase-flow outcomes. Events include random installation/session identifiers, platform, app version, and coarse result categories. Analytics events do not contain meal photos, food names, descriptions, target values, or nutrition values.
- Technical data: short-lived logs may include time, IP address, request status and error information for security and reliability.
- Purchases: processed by Apple. We receive entitlement status, not full payment-card details.
2. Sources and service providers
We use our contracted OpenAI-compatible AI API to inspect a selected image or food description and return approximate food, portion and nutrition estimates. Apple provides App Store payments. We do not use an external nutrition database.
3. Retention
Confirmed diary data remains until you delete the meal or app. Encrypted submitted images currently have no automatic expiration schedule and remain until we manually delete them after quality analysis, the storage is decommissioned, or deletion is required by an applicable request or law. Anonymous product-interaction events are retained for up to 90 days; queued events older than 30 days are discarded. Security logs are kept only as reasonably necessary.
4. Your choices
You can decline camera/photo access, edit or delete saved meals, reset the random installation identifier by uninstalling the app, manage purchases through Apple, or contact us about applicable privacy rights and image deletion. Because retained images are not stored with an account identity, include the approximate submission date and time when requesting deletion.
5. Children and sensitive use
MealGauge is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Do not use it for urgent medical decisions.
